What are the office hours?

The Police Department office is open from 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday.  The office is closed on certain holidays.  Officers are on duty 24 hours a day, every day of the year.  If the office is closed, you can contact an officer through the Sauk County Dispatch Center at 1-800-377-1195.

Do you register vehicles?

We do register vehicles at the Police Department.  We have temporary tags and metal plates.  An additional counter fee is charged when registering license plates at the Police Department.  The hours for vehicle registration are 9am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.

Do you do vehicle unlocks?

Yes, officers do vehicle unlocks.  A waiver of liability form must be signed and there is a $35 fee.  The fee is paid to the Police Department office, and not paid to the officer at the time of the unlock. 

What are the curfew hours?

Persons 17 and under have a curfew in Sauk City and Prairie du sac.  The curfew hour is 10:30pm, Sunday to Thursday.  The curfew hour is Midnight on Friday and Saturday.

What are the snow emergency rules?

In Sauk City and Prairie du sac a snow emergency exists when at least 2 inches of snow has accumulated in a 24 hour period.  When 2 inches of snow accumulates, all vehicles must be removed from the road.  The snow emergency remains for 48 hours after the snow stopped falling, or when the roads have been plowed. 

On Water Street in Sauk City, between Jefferson and Carolina Streets, there is alternate side parking during a snow emergency.  Cars park on the odd numbered side of the street on an odd number day.  The day number is determined by 8pm that day. 

Snow and Ice must be removed from sidewalks within 12 hours after the snow has fallen.  Failure to remove the snow and ice can result in a fine and/or Village crews removing the snow and ice at your expense.
