I was born and raised in Sauk City. I graduated from Sauk Prairie High School in 1974. I am married and have two sons. I began my career with the Sauk Prairie Police Dept. in 1976 as a Police Officer working patrol. At that time there were 5 Patrol officers and the chief. At that time the duties of the patrol officer were to patrol, respond to complaints and investigate and follow-up on your complaints as well as investigate crimes that occurred. In 1981 I took a job offer at Badger Army Ammunition plant as a security guard keeping a part time affiliation with the Sauk Prairie Police Dept. During my employment at badger I was promoted to the position of squad leader. In 1989 I returned to a full time position with the Sauk Prairie Police.
Since my return in 1989 I have held numerous positions with the Police Dept. Starting as a evening Patrol Officer, I was then given the position of juvenile officer handling major incidents involving juveniles. During this period I presented the Sauk Prairie Schools with the idea of offering the CounterAct program which is a program teaching the kids how to resist pressures to use alcohol, drugs and things they didn't want to do. The school administrators agreed to try the program for one year and at the end of the year the program was to be evaluated to decide if the program was to continue. Prior to the end of the trial year the school administrators determined that Counteract was a valuable program and decided to assist the program with partial funding from the Schools. The program was taught to the 4th graders through out the Sauk Prairie School system and continues today. A short time after introducing the CounterAct program the Sauk PrairieSchools saw what a valuable tool it was to have Law Enforcement contact with students and staff that they requested and offered to partially fund the position of a Police School Liaison Officer. This position is still in place with Officer Matt Alt acting as our departments representative as the Police School Liaison.
After the introduction of the Police School Liaison position the CounterAct program was conducted by the Police School Liaison Officer. I was then promoted to evening shift Sergeant. Eventually the Police Department grew in number of Officers and the needs of the community grew. The Department saw the need for a full time investigator and I became the Departments first full time Detective which is the position I hold today. Through out my career with the Sauk Prairie Police Dept. I have received specialized training in various areas that enhance my ability to provide the highest quality of Law Enforcement to the Citizens of the SaukPrairie Area.
